Dead Heat
A dead heat occurs when two or more participants finish in an exact tie for a winning or placing position in a sporting event. In betting, dead heat rules are applied to divide the payout proportionally between the tied selections. Dead heats are most common in horse racing, golf, and other sports where exact finishing positions can be shared.
